Twitter

a) Purpose
Twitter was founded on the 21st of march, 2006. Twitter is used as a place to share/find out about breaking news, sports, politics, and pretty much anything you can think of. From big events, to everyday interests. "If its happening anywhere, its happening on twitter."

b) Content
Twitter is a site in where you can have your own profile which you use as a personal blog. You can share photos, videos, have convocations with people and say whats on your mind at the time.

c) Target user
I think that the target audience for twitter is older teenagers to around the age of 60. I think that older teenagers are the target audience, as they are easy influenced by things, twitter gives them the opportunity to follow whoever want, for example a celebrity. I don't think that older people are the target audience as most find twitter confusing.

d) Sources of revenue
Twitter earns at least 86% of their income from adverts, however the site also gives people/businesses the opportunity to pay for promoted tweets, meaning your tweet will be shown on people's feed.

e) Legal and ethical issues
One controversy of the site, is people can pretty much say whatever they want to anyone. For example when a roller coaster crashed at Alton towers, many people found it funny and were writing jokes about it on twitter.

Facebook

a) Purpose
Facebook was founded on the 4th of February, 2004. Facebook's latest mission statement is that people use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, discover what's going on in the world, and share and express what matters to them.
b) Content
Facebook is a site in where you can have your own profile which you use as a personal blog. You can share photos, videos, have convocations with people, and talk about whatever you want.
d) Sources of revenue
The main way Facebook makes money is trough advertisements. The company made around £40 billion in 2017 just off  revenue.
c) Target user
The target user of the site is young adults up to around 60. This is because facebook is a useful site, everybody wants to message and interact with people they like at home so they do. facebook doesn't allow children to join the site as they might find inappropriate things on there and also because their internet safety knowledge isn't high.
e) Legal and ethical issues
One controversy with the site, was a major political scandal in early 2018 when it was revealed Cambridge Analytica, a company that had worked with Donald Trump's US presidential election campaign, had harvested the personal data of around 87 million people without their consent and used it for political purposes.

Instagram

a) Purpose /b) Content
Instagram was founded on the 6th of October, 2010. Instagram's original statement is to capture and share the world's moments. By creating an app to use on your mobile, so you can capture what
you deem to be important, Instagram allowed users to share these moments with each other.  This includes messages, videos, photos and live videos.
c) Target user
I think that the target audience for instagram is teenagers to old people around 70. The reason i think that the target audience is teenagers and adults, is because typically they are busy or doing something worth taking a photo of, for example they are at a party. Also, i think that the target audience is also old people as they use instagram as an easy place to store their photos, and show people the photos they have taken.
d) Sources of revenue
Instagram makes money mainly through ad revenue, however it also makes money through paid promotion, for example, you could pay for your post to appear in other people's timeline.
e) Legal and ethical issues
The photo sharing app’s policy changed, sparking a huge amount of controversy when news hit that Instagram claimed the right to sell its users’ photos at will. According to reports, this means that other companies could have written a check to license Instagram photos, put  them into some brochures, and distributed them without informing  the user.

TUMBLR

PINTREST
FACEBOOK
TWITTER

Summary

All of the websites I analysed, either have the title and login in the middle of the page, or the title and login on one side of the page, and a slogan on the other.  For example, on the Twitter website, the login is on the right, as well as the logo. On the left side, it explains what the website is for.
Where as on the Tumblr website, all of the key things are in the middle of the page, like the login, sign up link, the title ,and slogan. Another difference between the websites, is some are very plain and just use a basic design as the background, whereas some of the websites like Pintrest use different images in the background of the website to make it more interesting.
